Computer Lab

  1. Standardize Desktops
    1. Always use same icons
      1. Add all necessary links to the All Users folder (My Computer | Local Disk C: | Documents and Settings | All Users | Desktop)
    2. Add link to the Student Drive
      1. Change the icon to little people heads
    3. Add link for each of the Kindergarten class folders onto the Desktop
      1. Use different icons for each folder
    4. Turn on the Quick Launch Bar from the Taskbar
      1. Make sure they have Internet Explorer, Show Desktop, Earobics, Word, and PowerPoint. Take away any other icons.
    5. Turn off the Language Bar from the Taskbar
    6. Lock the Taskbar
    7. Turn off Personalized Menus on Start menu
    8. Sort the Start menu by name
    9. Change Theme to Windows Classic
    10. 800 x 600 resolution?
  2. Set Default Printer to whichever printer we want to use most (probably not the color printer)
  3. Fix Toolbars in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
    1. Tools menu | Customize | Options tab | then put checkmarks in the top 2 boxes (this has to be done separately in all 3 programs)
  4. Turn off the Drawing Canvas in Word
    1. Tools menu | Options | General tab | uncheck the bottom option about "Automatically create drawing canvas…"
  5. Internet Explorer
    1. Fix toolbars so they are in order from top to bottom
      1. Unlock the Toolbars
      2. Menu bar is on top
      3. Put the Standard toolbar underneath the Menu bar
      4. Put the Address bar just to the right of the Menu bar (on the same row)
      5. Hide the Links toolbar
      6. Lock the Toolbars when done
    2. Set the Text Size to Medium
      1. View menu | Text Size | Medium
  6. Do we need Drive Shield?
    1. Ask OCDE for their opinion
  7. Do we need Synchronize?
    1. Ask OCDE for their opinion
  8. Create posters for common buttons so teachers can use them in class

Classroom Computers

  1. Teachers need a place that they can secure files (like gradebooks and report cards)
    1. This would be better with a User Profile, but we may have to show them how they can secure a folder with a self made password
  2. Should be connected to their TV
  3. Students should be saving into their folder on the Students Drive
    1. They can open their work from anyplace
    2. Teachers can open their work from anyplace

Classroom Folders on the Student Drive

  1. Maybe we should create a folder for teachers, lock it, and only give teachers the password
    1. Password should be generic and easily remember-able but not something stupid that any student could guess
  2. Show all teachers how to create their documents as Read Only so students can’t change them
  3. Teachers should store a blank Word document, Excel spreadsheet, and PowerPoint presentation in their classroom folders
    1. When students want to open a new document, they should start in the classroom folder (and use one of the blank files) as opposed to creating a brand new document
    2. If they do this, they will be much more likely to save into the correct classroom folder as opposed to anyplace else that they may save
